1.WHAT IS "PRANAYAMA  PRESS"?

"Pranayama Press" is a monthly email news vehicle from Bhumi's
Yoga and Wellness Center. Pranayama refers to the healing
breathing exercises used in yoga. The main purpose of
"Pranayama Press" is educational. Each month a question on
holistic health or yoga is put into article form by Bhumi. If you
have a question for us, please email it to:
bhumiyoga@alltel.net.  Other short articles or news items are
included.

2. THE WORLD IS ONE FAMILY: BHUMI'S TRIP TO INDIA

"Vasudhaika Kutumbakum" means "the whole world is one family."
Our social life is not separate from our spiritual life. No
society can find its fulfillment without blossoming the spirit of
the individual.

Spiritual life is about how to keep inner peace while
being active in society. It is "service above self".

Recently, I went to India for three weeks to take a personal yoga
vacation and meet Rotary members there. Originally my intention
was to participate in the Polio Plus immunization program, see
some sites and deepen my yoga experience,  but as my trip
unfolded, many other opportunities opened up for me, and all
unexpected!

I met medical doctors who used yoga therapy extensively in their
clinics. I saw Rotary projects: a school for autistic children,
an orphanage, etc.  I was invited into one room homes of the poor
in small villages where no other Westerners lived; and into homes
in the cities among the professional class. I even did yoga in
the park with the senior citizens. How inspiring!

A minute of fame on Indian TV was unexpected. I was interviewed
during a visibility event "Run For Rotary" ... a 2 km. run with
over a thousand cadets and Rotarians for the centennial
celebration and met Milka Singh, the former Olympics runner. He
told me he ran in my home state of Ohio in 1958!

What I happily remember is the genuine welcome of the Indian
local people wherever I travelled. With just one phrase "Kemcho.
Maru nam Bhumi che" ("How are you? My name is Bhumi") smiles
emerged and doors were opened.

With just one attitude "Vasudhaika Kutumbakum", "The World is One
Family", I am able to feel at home anywhere in the world.

3. Q & A: HOW CAN I CONNECT WITH THE EARTH'S HEALING ENERGY?

The Earth's energy is the most powerful healing energy there is.
Try this. Stand outside on the earth's grass, barefoot, feet
parallel in standing mountain pose. With arms overhead, gather
Heaven's energy. Then, with arms at your sides, visualize lifting
Earth's energy through the soles of your feet and up into the
body. Feel the connection, and steadiness of mind.

The feet are considered holy in many Asian cultures, and in Egypt,
it was believed that the soul leaves the body through the soles
of the feet.

Daily, I lie on my back on the Earth (yes, I wear a coat in cold
weather) for a minimum of 5-10 minutes. I can feel the Earth's
energy against my spine. The spinal chord connects to the
internal organs, so deep healing is possible on many levels.
If emotional, you will become more grounded, if physically tired,
you will gain more strength, and if ill, you will receive healing
energy.

Now with the warmer weather, get your hands in the Earth through
gardening, take walks outdoors, and breathe deeply to take in
refreshing "prana" energy. Elevate your mood, clear your mind,
and replenish your spirit.

Our Annual Spring Retreat Juen 10-12, 2005 is a great opportunity
to experience holistic health practices and great food, surrounded
by nature.

4."IT'S ALL ABOUT ENERGY" ARTICLE BY CORINNE MILLER, YTT Graduate

A year ago, I spent the weekend at Bhumi's Annual Spring Retreat-
a delightful weekend in the woods, a close-to-home vacation.  The
facilities at Cuyahoga Valley National Park were clean and
comfortable.  The people were friendly and easy to talk to.  The
park surrounding us was green and quiet.  The mood was relaxed,
open and sharing.  For these things alone, I would return to the
Retreat.  But there is so much more.

There is the food.  Barb Jurecki comes in from Colorado and is a
macrobiotic chef extraordinaire.  She and her helpers make every
meal a buffet of taste sensations.

There is the yoga.  Each morning Bhumi guides us to an awareness
of our body, mind and spirit through the action of yoga.

There is the learning.  Barb, Bhumi and Bob Carr all share their
knowledge and experience in so many fields: Shiatsu Massage,
Macrobiotic Living, Feng Shui, Yoga, Language, Mantra, Meditation.

And the intriguing thing is this:  each discussion, each chant,
each meal, each movement. it's all about energy.  We are all
about energy.  The universe is all about energy.

Not only does the Spring Retreat provide a getaway for the body
and mind.  It creates an open space to explore the energy that we
discover in ourselves, and all around us.  An energy that has
been with us all along, waiting to be noticed.  An energy we can
tap into, every ordinary day of our lives.
